This has been
an exciting and busy summer. Jan and Dick Wendorf recently
gifted Eaton Community Hospice with 12 acres of land attached to the
Hospice House property. They are also planning a beautiful memorial
garden, which will include the pond with a fountain and lights in
memory of Leland and Opal Peck. Mr. Peck was a Hospice House
patient for a very short time and the Wendorfs felt it would
be appropriate to use some of his estate to provide for future
growth of our Hospice program as well as create an area for families
and hospice patients to sit and enjoy the outdoors. This has truly
been a generous gift, which not only allows for a building site for
a future Thrift Shop (if we can obtain county approval) but also for
additional Hospice Houses.
Car shows and a golf outing also were a big part of our summer.
In memory of her husband, Red Parkhouse, Jan Parkhouse organized
a Street Rod car show at the Eaton County Fair Grounds.
Bob Bumgardner of Sunfield facilitated 2 car shows. One of
the events was coordinated with the SPY summer car show and the
other was a part of an Elvis Presley Sunday at the Sunfield United
Methodist Church.
In September, Mari Calton and Schad Sparks, with
the help of friends and family, organized an E-Day Golf Scramble in
memory of their mother, Eleni Nicolaou-Sparks.
These fund-raising events have been most helpful to Eaton
Community Hospice as we continue to care for the very ill at no
charge. Our Hospice program, which includes the Hospice House,
operates totally on donated money such as fund-raisers, memorial
money, United Way, the Thrift Shop and grants. Volunteers also make
a huge difference by donating their gift of time and talents.
We are truly blessed by those in the community as they support
our Hospice program in whatever way they can.
Thank you,
